Dear colleagues and friends of the Pedagogical Section
at the Goetheanum!

Before the beginning of the summer holidays, and at the winter mid-point, we would like to tell you about an important event that will take place in just 10 months’ time:  The 11th World Teachers Conference. We hope that many colleagues from all over the world will be able to come to the Goetheanum from 10th to 15th April, 2023, to discuss and develop together some future impulses for education.

In addition, in this issue, you will find an article by our colleague, Iona Viscrianu, about a Section research project on the topic of education and health, plus a description of the main themes that the Pedagogical Section has set itself to focus on during the coming years.

We aim to contribute to solutions of the burning issues in the educational field. In doing so, we will draw on research and publications in educational science, as well as on perspectives generated by work and insights within the framework of the School of Spiritual Science founded by Rudolf Steiner.

All teachers, educators and scholars who are interested in these issues and would like to contribute to the research, or who would like to form local or other research groups and do their work in connection with the Pedagogical Section, may contact the Pedagogical Section to engage in an exchange of ideas and to tackle joint projects.

Please also note the events listings at the end of the newsletter. The Faust performances are especially close to our hearts. We would be pleased if teachers who teach Faust, or students who have already worked, or will work on this topic feel invited. It is worthwhile!

With warm wishes, Philipp Reubke from the Pedagogical Section

Our human contribution for the future

World Teachers' Conference

The World Teachers' Conference will take place for the 11th time at the Goetheanum in Dornach, Switzerland. The theme of the conference for teachers and educators from all over the world is:
«Affirming - Nurturing - Trusting, an Education for Today and Tomorrow.»

We look forward to seeing you!

How do children master the future?

The growing awareness of the challenges of today's society, along with the impacts of related crises, in terms of inequality, injustice and mental health issues, lead to the need to develop abilities as a young person in order to be able to act in a future world.
School, as a place of development, can make a decisive contribution to the development of resources that are conducive to resilience.

A contribution by Ioana Viscrianu.

«Celebrations of a Human-centered Education»

An Initiative of the Pedagogical and General Anthroposophical Sections at the Goetheanum

These courses by Rudolf Steiner, which took place during the last three years of his public work (1922-1924), were milestones and in a certain way also «celebrations of a new art of education». They were marked by the future, by light, confidence and élan.

Constanza Kaliks and Philipp Reubke, the leaders of the Pedagogical Section, will give impulsive presentations on this topic.

They will take place on June 25th and September 3rd at the Goetheanum and live via Zoom.

«Voices of a humane education in the 20th century»

Rudolf Steiner was not the only one to call for a change in pedagogy in the 20th century. It was no longer the rules of church and state that were to be decisive for the teachers of the time, but the nature of the child. The methods and contents of the living and learning conditions were to be newly developed from the child's understanding.
Under the title «Voices of a dignified pedagogy», the Pedagogical Section presents nine such reform pedagogues.
