Dear Friends,

The brand-new magazine "Living Farms" is here! We put it in your hands and also in your hearts because we want to create a connection between readers and writers and prepare fertile ground for the further dissemination, deepening, and development of biodynamics.

For the centenary of biodynamic agriculture, we dared to do something new and replaced the conference documentation and our circular with a magazine format to reach a broader readership. The magazine "Living Farms" is free and appears at the beginning of June and December in German and English, both in print and online. The June issue includes contributions on the Agriculture Conference, while the December issue focuses on the various fields of work of the Section and the worldwide biodynamic movement.

Agriculture Conference 2025 – The earth as a living being

Join us at the Agriculture Conference 2025, where we will delve into the future of biodynamics. This conference marks the culmination of a trilogy that began with a retrospective in 2023 and continued with a deep exploration of the Agriculture Course at the anniversary conference 2024. Now, we look forward to 2025 and beyond, envisioning the future in our central theme: The Earth as a Living Being. We turn our focus from the farm organism to the earth as a living organism, to examine life itself, to co-experience the living. Can we connect with the Earth through its living gesture? Can we experience her as a living being?

In 3-day morning workshops, we want to explore the conference theme through the lens of Rudolf Steiner's seven life processes. The 3-day afternoon workshops offer an open format for experiencing the living on an artistic or meditative level. During the extended afternoon break, we welcome artistic performances and discussion groups. If the conference theme resonates with you, we look forward to your ideas and proposals for contribution.

Agriculture Conference 2024 – 100 years of the Agriculture Course

For those who could not attend the anniversary conference or who wish to delve into the conference content again, the lectures from the anniversary conference have been continuously published on Goetheanum.tv since February. Now, all of them are available in six languages (Chinese, German, English, French, Italian, and Spanish), except for the lecture on the preparations by Andrea D’Angelo and Paz Bernaschina. This will follow once the preparation study mentioned in the lecture is published.

Review of the open day at the Goetheanum garden park

Over 800 people, young and old, accepted the invitation from the nursery and the Section for Agriculture to celebrate the centenary of biodynamic agriculture together last Whitsunday, 19 May. The festival aimed to immerse us in Nature's diverse elements, engage our senses, and celebrate its bounties through agriculture.
We can assume that everyone went home with soil on their shoes, stars in their eyes, and a heart delighted by the beauty of our earth. This is a concrete and lively incentive to change our view of Nature with the help of biodynamics!

Artists, farmers and entrepreneurs have joined forces to develop the Goetheanum cantilever chair. We used Cotton (Sekem), wool (Studio Claudy Jongstra and Weved), and plant colors from the Goetheanum gardens to make it. The copyright to this revolutionary design and Thonet’s exclusive rights of use to it were transferred to the General Anthroposophical Society in 1986 as stipulated in Mart Stam’s will. Monthly online courses "Agri-Culture: Rhythms and Rituals"

Rhythm is life. The cosmos in which our planet is embedded moves in rhythmic patterns that influence all life, from plants and animals to humans. Life cycles, including those of the earth, are deeply connected to these rhythms. How can conscious rituals in the rhythm of the year help us to connect with other living beings, maintain our balance and thus strengthen resilience on the farms?

June course "Co-creation and resilience"
Monday, 10 June 2024, 14:00–15:30 CEST

The next course in the "Agri-Culture: Rhythms and Rituals" series will focus on the different qualities of time that are particularly noticeable in agriculture. We will look at the significance of the summer solstice in different regions and the opportunities farmers have to help shape it, for example through the use of biodynamic preparations on their farms.

July course "Discovering the soul of the earth"
Monday, 8 July 2024, 14:00–15:30 CEST

The vitality of the earth is essentially revealed through vegetation, i.e. the growth, reproduction and decay of plants. It shows its soul in the blossoming of plants, their colourfulness and above all through the enormous diversity of the animal world. Rudolf Steiner draws our attention to the fact that the "astrality" of animals is an essential supplement for a healthy agricultural organism. In this course we will explore the specificity of the earthly summer state and the astral atmosphere of the earth, as well as looking at animals as key elements for the resilience of agricultural goods and large landscapes.

The main language is English, and interpretation into Spanish is organized. Registration and payment are possible via the website. You can also find the topics and dates of the following courses on our website.

Online course "The earth as our substance of destiny – contributions of Anthroposophy to sustainable development"
4–8 November 2024, daily from 14:00 to 15:15, with Johannes Kronenberg

Together we will explore anthroposophical approaches in the context of sustainable development. What contribution can work inspired by anthroposophy make to the socio-economic crisis? How can we integrate the worldview that anthroposophy introduced more than 100 years ago? And what can we learn from organizations and initiatives that have been contributing to sustainable development based on anthroposophy for decades? The course language is English, with Chinese and Spanish translation on request.

Anniversary celebrations in Germany, Austria and Switzerland

Festivities on Demeter farms

The Demeter associations in Germany are organizing several anniversary celebrations in June, for example, at the Arpshof, the Dannwisch farm, and the Tennental village community. Austria is also celebrating the anniversary with various events, including the ‘Long Night of Demeter Farms’ on 15 June. In Switzerland, Demeter farms are opening their doors, with numerous events taking place in June in particular.

Das brandneue Magazin «Living Farms» ist da! Wir legen es in eure Hände und auch in eure Herzen, denn wir wollen eine Verbindung zwischen Lesenden und Schreibenden schaffen und einen fruchtbaren Boden für die weitere Verbreitung, Vertiefung und Entwicklung der Biodynamik bereiten.

Zum hundertjährigen Jubiläum wagten wir etwas Neues und ersetzten die Tagungsdokumentation und unseren Rundbrief durch ein Magazinformat, um eine breitere Leser:innenschaft zu erreichen. Das Magazin «Living Farms» ist kostenlos und erscheint Anfang Juni und Dezember in Deutsch und Englisch, als Printausgabe und online. Die Juni-Ausgabe enthält unter anderem Beiträge zur Landwirtschaftlichen Tagung, während die Dezember-Ausgabe die verschiedenen Arbeitsfelder der Sektion und der weltweiten biodynamischen Bewegung fokussiert.

Landwirtschaftliche Tagung 2025 – Die Erde als Lebewesen

Was kommt auf uns zu, jetzt, da wir in das zweite Jahrhundert des biodynamischen Impulses eintreten? An der Landwirtschaftlichen Tagung 2025 wollen wir den Zukunfts-Schritt vom einzelnen Lebensort zur Erde als Ganzes, als Lebewesen, unternehmen. Diese Tagung bildet den Abschluss einer Trilogie, die mit einem Rückblick im Jahr 2023 begann und mit einer tiefen Betrachtung des Landwirtschaftlichen Kurses an der Jubiläumstagung 2024 fortgesetzt wurde. Mit dem Thema «Die Erde als Lebewesen» stellen wir nun die Frage nach der Erde als Organismus des Lebendigen. Können wir die Erde als lebendiges Wesen erfahren? Können wir uns mit ihrer Geste des Lebendigen verbinden?

In dreitägigen Workshops am Vormittag wollen wir das Tagungsthema auf der Grundlage von Rudolf Steiners sieben Lebensprozessen bearbeiten. Mit dreitägigen Workshops am Nachmittag ist ein themenoffenes Format gegeben, in dem das Lebendige auf künstlerischer oder meditativer Ebene erfahren werden soll. In der grossen Nachmittagspause laden wir zu künstlerischen Darbietungen und Gesprächsgruppen ein. Landwirtschaftliche Tagung 2024 – 100 Jahre Landwirtschaftlicher Kurs

Für alle, die nicht bei der Jubiläumstagung dabei sein konnten oder sich nochmals in die Tagungsinhalte vertiefen möchten, wurden die Vorträge seit Februar laufend bei Goetheanum.tv veröffentlicht. Nun sind alle in sechs Sprachen (Chinesisch, Deutsch, Englisch, Französisch, Italienisch und Spanisch) einsehbar, abgesehen vom Vortrag über die Präparate von Andrea D’Angelo und Paz Bernaschina. Dieser folgt, sobald die im Vortrag erwähnte Präparate-Studie veröffentlicht ist.

Über 800 Menschen, Gross und Klein, folgten der Einladung der Gärtnerei und der Sektion für Landwirtschaft, um am vergangenen Pfingstsonntag, 19. Mai, gemeinsam das hundertjährige Jubiläum der biodynamischen Landwirtschaft zu feiern. Die Idee des Festes war, der Natur in all ihren Facetten durch unsere Sinne zu begegnen und das zu würdigen, was sie uns ermöglicht, indem wir sie durch die Landwirtschaft bearbeiten.
Wir können davon ausgehen, dass alle mit Erde an den Schuhen, Sternen in den Augen und einem von der Schönheit unserer Erde erfreuten Herzen nach Hause gingen. Ein konkreter und lebendiger Anreiz, unseren Blick auf die Natur mit Hilfe der Biodynamik zu verändern!

Ein Beitrag zur Zukunft
Der ‹Thonet S 33 Goetheanum-Freischwinger›-Stuhl

Künstler:innen, Landwirt:innen und Unternehmer:innen haben sich zusammengetan, um den «Goetheanum-Freischwinger» zu entwickeln. Zur Herstellung dienten Baumwolle (Sekem), Wolle (Studio Claudy Jongstra und Weved) und Pflanzenfarben aus den Gärten des Goetheanum. Das Urheberrecht an diesem epochalen Entwurf und die Thonet hieran eingeräumten ausschliesslichen Nutzungsrechte gingen 1986 durch testamentarische Verfügung von Mart Stam auf die Allgemeine Anthroposophische Gesellschaft über. Monatliche Onlinekurse «Agri-Kultur: Rhythmen und Rituale»

Rhythmus ist Leben. Der Kosmos, in dem unser Planet eingebettet ist, bewegt sich in rhythmischen Mustern, die alles Leben beeinflussen, von Pflanzen und Tieren bis zum Menschen. Die Lebenszyklen, auch die der Erde, stehen in tiefer Verbindung mit diesen Rhythmen. Wie können uns bewusste Rituale im Rhythmus des Jahres dabei helfen, uns mit anderen Lebewesen zu verbinden, unser Gleichgewicht zu erhalten und so die Resilienz auf den Höfen zu stärken?

Juni-Kurs «Mitgestaltung und Resilienz»
Montag, 10. Juni 2024, 14:00–15:30 CEST

Im Fokus des nächsten Kurses der Reihe «Agri-Kultur: Rhythmen und Rituale» stehen die verschiedenen Zeitqualitäten, die in der Landwirtschaft besonders spürbar sind. Hierzu werden wir uns mit der Bedeutung der Sommersonnenwende in verschiedenen Regionen beschäftigen und mit den mitgestaltenden Möglichkeiten, die Landwirt:innen beispielsweise durch die Anwendung der biodynamischen Präparate auf ihren Betrieben haben.

Juli-Kurs «Die Seele der Erde entdecken»
Montag, 8. Juli 2024, 14:00–15:30 CEST

Die Lebendigkeit der Erde offenbart sich im Wesentlichen durch die Vegetation, also das Wachsen, Reproduzieren und Vergehen der Pflanzen. Ihre Seele zeigt sie in der Blüte der Pflanzen, ihrer Farbenpracht und vor allem durch die enorme Vielfalt in der Tierwelt. Rudolf Steiner macht uns darauf aufmerksam, dass die «Astralität» der Tiere eine wesentliche Ergänzung für einen gesunden landwirtschaftlichen Organismus ist.
In diesem Kurs werden wir die Besonderheit des irdischen Sommerzustandes und der astralen Atmosphäre der Erde erforschen sowie die Tiere als Schlüsselelemente für die Widerstandsfähigkeit von Höfen und Landschaften betrachten.

Die Hauptsprache ist Englisch, eine Übersetzung ins Spanische ist organisiert. Registrierung und Bezahlung sind via Webseite möglich. Auch die Themen und die Daten der nachfolgenden Kurse findet ihr auf unserer Webseite.

Onlinekurs «Die Erde als unsere Schicksalssubstanz – Beiträge der Anthroposophie zur nachhaltigen Entwicklung»

Gemeinsam werden wir anthroposophische Ansätze im Kontext nachhaltiger Entwicklung erkunden. Welchen Beitrag zur sozio-ökonomischen Krise kann die von der Anthroposophie inspirierte Arbeit leisten? Wie lässt sich die Weltanschauung integrieren, die die Anthroposophie vor mehr als 100 Jahren eingeführt hat? Und was können wir von Organisationen und Initiativen lernen, die seit Jahrzehnten aus der Anthroposophie heraus zu einer nachhaltigen Entwicklung beitragen? Die Kurssprache ist Englisch, auf Anfrage mit chinesischer und spanischer Übersetzung.

Jubiläumsfeiern in Deutschland, Österreich und der Schweiz
Festivitäten auf Demeter-Höfen

Die Demeter-Verbände in Deutschland veranstalten im Juni mehrere Jubiläumsfeiern, beispielsweise auf dem Arpshof, auf dem Hof Dannwisch oder in der Dorfgemeinschaft Tennental. Auch Österreich feiert das Jubiläum mit verschiedenen Anlässen, unter anderen mit der «Langen Nacht der Demeter-Höfe» am 15. Juni. In der Schweiz öffnen die Demeter-Höfe ihre Türen, insbesondere im Juni finden zahlreiche Veranstaltungen statt.
