The theme of the last Agriculture Conference, "The Earth as a Living Being," invited us to rethink our relationship with our planet. We came to understand that healing the Earth is deeply connected to healing ourselves.

This task is not just an individual one, but a collective endeavour. Agriculture means community — it means coming together, building relationships, and forming alliances that foster a new and more sustainable social dynamic. Building community requires patience and trust, but it also creates security and strengthens resilience.

By exploring and developing community-supported agriculture, agroforestry systems, soil fertility and vitality, nutrition, One Health approaches, and new economic impulses, we can nurture life forces on both an individual and societal level. This is how solutions arise for shaping a positive future.

Under the guiding theme "You Never Farm Alone. Living Communities for the Future," we will dedicate the upcoming Agriculture Conference from 4 to 7 February 2026 to the social dimension of biodynamics.

NEW ONLINE COURSE: Human – Cosmos – Humus

This three-part module series “Human – Cosmos – Humus” explores the anthroposophical principles of biodynamic agriculture and how we can bring them to life on our farms. Can we animate these principles in creative and meaningful ways that inspire and intuitively guide our work?

Our goal is to explore the human constitution and understand how our entire being is intertwined with the development of the Earth and the cosmic rhythms. We want to re-examine these images from today’s perspective and foster visionary thinking.

Development lab for high-impact biodynamic training courses
Practical foundations in anthroposophical adult education

The Biodynamic Federation Demeter International (BFDI) and the Section for Agriculture will soon launch an action research project focused on applying anthroposophical adult education methods to biodynamic training. The project will take place as an experimental, practice-based course called “The high-impact course development lab.”

The aim is to train biodynamic trainers from around the world in the principles of anthroposophical adult education and study how this affects both trainers and learners. The course will run from August 2025 to February 2026, with regular 1.5-hour online sessions and a final two-day in-person training and celebration in Dornach just before the Agriculture Conference 2026. Ambra Sedlmayr will lead the course in English.

With around 100 contributions from researchers worldwide, the Third International Biodynamic Research Conference from 31 August to 1 September 2025 at the Royal Agricultural University in Cirencester, UK, offers a unique opportunity to share and further develop current insights across all areas of biodynamics. It fosters vibrant networks, collegial learning, and interdisciplinary collaboration – and most of all, invites you to actively shape the future direction of biodynamic research.

Look forward to inspiring keynote speakers! Binita Shah and Julia Wright will open the event with a reflection on the holistic nature of biodynamics. On the second day, David Martin and Eduardo Rincón will share their different perspectives on biodynamic practice and research. Finally, Regina Sharmila Dass and Cyrille Rigolot will introduce new approaches to the future of biodynamic research. You can also look forward to a wide variety of workshops, discussion panels, poster presentations and excursions.

Online seminar with Erik Baars

How humus influences soil climate
New study report by Lukas Maschek

Humus is known to benefit soil health — but why exactly? What is humus, how does it form, and what functions does it serve in the soil? In a 2025 review paper, researchers Alessandro Piccolo and Marios Drosos explore the importance of humus for soil health, water retention, carbon storage, and ecological sustainability. Their findings show that humus — particularly in its supramolecular form — is essential for the soil’s physical stability, chemical fertility, and biological activity.

The Dynamic Nutrition Network: We’re inviting professionals in nutrition including cooks, chefs, therapists, nutritionists, doctors, farmers, processors, and anyone with a deep interest in nutrition, to participate in online meetings on Dynamic Nutrition.

Current trends in nutrition
New article by Dr. Jasmin Peschke and Lea Knöpfler in DE, EN, ES, FR

The current Nutrition 2025 Trend Report from Germany is seen as positive. At the same time, the rising number of diet-related illnesses worldwide points in a different direction. This raises the question of the extent to which the aforementioned trends and current developments coincide. The Planetary Health Diet as a sustainable form of nutrition serves the health of all, including the entire earth. This is exactly what we need to be able to live healthily and sustainably in the future. Some points in the trend report point in this direction, which gives us hope.

Food as a remedy for soil and people

Healthy food can only be produced in living soil. Biodynamic agriculture has many positive effects, one of which is humus formation. The soil microbiome is diverse, and the products themselves contain a diverse bacterial flora that hardly contains any pathogens – in contrast to conventionally produced products. When we eat the products, their microbiome stimulates the human gut microbiome, which is the basis for human immunity and health. In this way, food can be the bridge to both human health and agriculture.

“I am the future!” declared farmer and director of the Organic Consumers Association, Ercilia Sahores, to 700 attendees in the Great Hall. She meant it in two ways: arriving from Mexico, she came from a different time zone – the “future” – and she also reported on agricultural projects that lead us into the future. Alongside her were Swati Renduchintala (India), Thoraya Seada, and Naglaa Ahmed (Egypt), who together opened the 2025 Agriculture Conference: See the article in the Weekly Journal “Das Goetheanum” No. 10.

Conference scholarships – Empowering young biodynamic farmers
Report from scholarship recipient Ibana Gómez

Thanks to a conference scholarship, Ibana Gómez from Uruguay and 13 other young people were able to attend the Agriculture Conference 2025. They are now bringing back the inspiration, knowledge, and global connections they gained to their home regions – helping to strengthen the future of biodynamic agriculture.

Ibana Gómez: "For the past four years, I have been building a diverse CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) farm together with about 15 families, and I am active in Uruguay’s biodynamic network. We are about to begin biodynamic cultivation on a new piece of land – an important step for biodynamics in our country.
The conference was a deeply inspiring social experience for me. Encounters like this are essential for people working in agriculture, who carry great responsibility and have little free time. They provide a chance to rest, gain distance, and develop new perspectives."

We also wish to offer scholarships for the next Agriculture Conference, taking place from 4–7 February 2026, under the theme "You never farm alone. Living communities for the future." We warmly ask for your support – whether large or small. Depending on the country of origin, a scholarship costs between 500 and 1,000 Swiss francs.

Rudolf Steiner’s spiritual impulses for a civilization of the future

A hundred years after the founding of the Free School of Spiritual Science, the next stage of its realization is upon us. Our lives today are shaped by polarization, disorientation, loss of meaning, social fragmentation, and even war – calling for a renewed spiritual deepening that can become effective in culture and civilization.

To date, twelve sections have been established, supporting global work in various life domains through research, continuing education, and exchange.

At Whitsun 2025, we want to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Rudolf Steiner’s death and revisit his inspirations for each section and field of life in light of today’s challenges. The Section for Agriculture will also share how it contributes to the School’s work and what it offers for the civilization of the future.

Das Thema der letzten Landwirtschaftlichen Tagung «Die Erde als Lebewesen» lud uns ein, unsere Beziehung zu unserem Planeten neu zu denken. Wir erkannten, dass die Heilung der Erde in Beziehung steht mit der Heilung unserer selbst.

Diese Aufgabe ist nicht nur ein individuelles, sondern auch ein gemeinschaftliches Unterfangen. Landwirtschaft bedeutet Gemeinschaft, bedeutet Zusammenkommen, Beziehungen aufbauen und Bündnisse schliessen, die auf eine neue und nachhaltigere soziale Dynamik hinwirken. Gemeinschaftsbildung erfordert Geduld und Vertrauen, doch sie schafft auch Sicherheit und fördert die Widerstandskraft.

Durch die Erforschung und Weiterentwicklung gemeinschaftlicher Landwirtschaft, agroforstwirtschaftlicher Aspekte, der Bodenfruchtbarkeit und -vitalität, Ernährungssysteme, One-Health-Ansätze sowie wirtschaftlicher Impulse können wir Lebenskräfte sowohl auf individueller als auch auf gesellschaftlicher Ebene entfalten. So entstehen Lösungen für eine positive Zukunftsgestaltung.

Unter dem Leitgedanken «You Never Farm Alone. Lebendige Gemeinschaften für die Zukunft» möchten wir uns auf der kommenden Landwirtschaftlichen Tagung vom 4. bis 7. Februar 2026 der sozialen Dimension in der Biodynamik widmen.

In dieser dreiteiligen Modulreihe zum Thema «Mensch – Kosmos – Humus» werden wir uns mit den anthroposophischen Prinzipien der biodynamischen Landwirtschaft befassen und wie wir sie auf unseren Höfen in die Praxis umsetzen. Können wir diese Prinzipien auf kreative und sinnvolle Weise zum Leben erwecken, die inspirierend ist und uns intuitiv bei unserer Arbeit leitet?

Unser Ziel ist es, die menschliche Konstitution zu erforschen und zu verstehen, wie unser ganzes Wesen mit der Entwicklung der Erde und den kosmischen Rhythmen verwoben ist. Wir wollen diese Bilder aus heutiger Sicht betrachten und ein visionäres Umdenken fördern.

Entwicklungslabor für wirkungsvolle Kurse biodynamischer Ausbilder:innen
Praktische Grundlagen in der anthroposophischen Erwachsenenbildung

Die Biodynamic Federation Demeter International (BFDI) und die Sektion für Landwirtschaft werden in Kürze ein Aktionsforschungsprojekt zur Anwendung der anthroposophischen Erwachsenenbildung in Hinblick auf die biodynamische Ausbildung starten. Die Forschung erfolgt in einem experimentellen und praxisnahen Kurs («The high-impact course development lab»). Das Ziel dabei ist, biodynamische Ausbilder:innen aus der ganzen Welt in den Grundlagen der anthroposophischen Erwachsenenbildung auszubilden und die Entwicklungen zu erforschen, die sich daraus sowohl für die Ausbilder:innen als auch für die Lernenden ergeben.

Der Kurs wird von August 2025 bis Februar 2026 stattfinden, mit regelmässigen 1,5-stündigen Online-Sitzungen und einer abschliessenden zweitägigen Live-Schulung und Feier in Dornach vor der Landwirtschaftlichen Tagung 2026. Ambra Sedlmayr unterrichtet den Kurs in Englisch.

Humus ist gut für die Bodengesundheit. Doch wieso eigentlich? Was genau ist Humus, wie entsteht er und welche Funktionen übernimmt Humus im Boden? In einer Übersichtsarbeit aus dem Jahr 2025 untersuchen Alessandro Piccolo und Marios Drosos die Bedeutung von Humus für die Bodengesundheit, den Wasserhaushalt, die Kohlenstoffspeicherung und die ökologische Nachhaltigkeit. Die Forschenden konnten zeigen, dass Humus – insbesondere in seiner supramolekularen Form – essenziell ist für die physikalische Stabilität, chemische Fruchtbarkeit und biologische Aktivität im Boden.

Nächste Onlinesitzung des Dynamic Nutrition Network
5. Juni 2025, 14:00 bis 15:30 Uhr

Biodynamische Lebensmittelqualität ist das Thema der nächsten Sitzung. Nach einem Beitrag von Jens-Otto Andersen zu den Prinzipien der biodynamischen Lebensmittelqualität in der letzten Sitzung werden wir einige Aspekte weiter vertiefen. Es gibt Beiträge zu den Themen «Wachstum und Differenzierung» sowie «Proteinqualität». Die Sitzung findet in englischer Sprache mit Simultanübersetzung ins Spanische statt und ist für alle Fachpersonen im Bereich Ernährung offen.

Der aktuelle Trendreport Ernährung 2025 aus Deutschland wird als positiv gewertet. Gleichzeitig deutet die weltweit steigende Zahl an ernährungsbedingten Erkrankungen in eine andere Richtung. Dies führt zur Frage, inwieweit die genannten Trends und aktuellen Entwicklungen übereinstimmen. Die Planetary Health Diet als nachhaltige Ernährungsform dient der Gesundheit aller, einschliesslich der gesamten Erde. Genau dies braucht es, um in Zukunft gesund und nachhaltig leben zu können. Einige Punkte des Trendreports weisen in diese Richtung, was Hoffnung gibt.

Nahrungsmittel als Heilmittel

Nur in lebendigen Böden können gesunde Nahrungsmittel erzeugt werden. Die biodynamische Landwirtschaft hat viele positive Effekte, einer davon ist der Humusaufbau. Das Bodenmikrobiom ist vielfältig, und die Produkte selbst enthalten eine vielfältige Bakterienflora, die kaum pathogene Erreger enthält – im Gegensatz zu konventionell erzeugten Produkten. Essen wir die Produkte, stimuliert ihr Mikrobiom das menschliche Darmmikrobiom, das die Grundlage für die menschliche Immunität und Gesundheit ist. So können Nahrungsmittel die Brücke sein sowohl zur Gesundheit der Menschen als auch zur Landwirtschaft.

«Ich bin die Zukunft!», rief die Landwirtin und Direktorin der Organic Consumers Association Ercilia Sahores zu den 700 Tagungsteilnehmenden im Grossen Saal. Sie meinte es im doppelten Sinne. Aus Mexiko angereist, kam sie aus einer anderen Zeitzone – aus der «Zukunft». Zugleich berichtete sie von landwirtschaftlichen Projekten, die in die Zukunft führen. Genauso wie Swati Renduchintala aus Indien und Thoraya Seada sowie Naglaa Ahmed aus Ägypten. Zu viert gestalteten sie die Eröffnung der Landwirtschaftlichen Tagung 2025 – siehe dazu den Beitrag in der Wochenschrift Nr. 8.

Tagungsstipendien – junge biodynamische Landwirt:innen stärken
Die Stipendiatin Ibana Gomez berichtet

Dank eines Tagungsstipendiums konnten Ibana Gómez aus Uruguay und 13 weitere junge Menschen an der Landwirtschaftlichen Tagung 2025 teilnehmen. Nun bringen sie die Inspiration, das Wissen und die globalen Kontakte, die sie dort gewonnen haben, in ihre Heimatregionen zurück – und stärken so die Zukunft der biodynamischen Landwirtschaft.

Ibana Gómez: «Zusammen mit etwa 15 Familien baue ich seit vier Jahren einen vielfältigen CSA-Betrieb (Community Supported Agriculture) auf und bin im biodynamischen Netzwerk Uruguays aktiv. Wir stehen kurz vor der Übernahme eines neuen Stücks Land, das wir biodynamisch bewirtschaften wollen – ein wichtiger Schritt für die Biodynamik in unserem Land.
Die Tagung war für mich sozial sehr inspirierend. Solche lebendigen Begegnungen sind für Menschen in Landwirtschaftsbetrieben mit grosser Verantwortung und wenig Freizeit essenziell, um sich körperlich und emotional zu erholen, Abstand zu gewinnen und neue Perspektiven zu entwickeln.»

Rudolf Steiners geistige Impulse für eine Zivilisation der Zukunft
Pfingsttagung vom 6. bis 9. Juni 2025

Zum ersten Mal veranstalten alle zwölf Sektionen am Goetheanum gemeinsam eine Tagung, um zu untersuchen, wie 100 Jahre nach der Gründung der Freien Hochschule für Geisteswissenschaft weitere Schritte in ihrer Verwirklichung stattfinden können. Zu Pfingsten 2025 möchten wir das 100. Todesjahr Rudolf Steiners zum Anlass nehmen, seine Inspirationen für die einzelnen Sektions- und Lebensgebiete vor dem Hintergrund der Zeitlage zu vergegenwärtigen. Auch die Sektion für Landwirtschaft zeigt, welchen Beitrag sie in die Erkenntnis-Arbeit der Hochschule einbringt und was sie für die Zivilisation der Zukunft leistet.
