Dear Friends,
In South America 400 people were recently stranded in a snowstorm at the Pass of Christ the Redeemer between Chile and Argentina at 3,000 m.s.l., while in Europe there is a heatwave and drought with forest fires. There is no rain. Neither continent has experienced these kind of extreme weather conditions before. Too little is being done about climate change and with a lack of commitment, as noted by the affected countries recently during the Petersberg Climate Dialogue in Berlin. The situation is unbalanced, because the people who suffer most from the effects of climate change are not responsible for it.
The sun is life-giving in the face of the cold and dark, but when it beats down on the earth without moderation, as in the desert, it is too strong and life withers. It needs the sheaths of the earth like the climate, weather and seasons, and the skin of the earth like vegetation, fertile soil, thoughtfully designed housing and landscape architecture all the way to a culture where people's "inner sun" can shine with forces from the heart: love, interest and affection.

| Agriculture Conference 2023 – Last Call for Contributions
|
|
|
|
| The annual theme and the Call for Contributions for the upcoming 2023 Agriculture Conference were met with keen interest: over forty submissions from twelve countries have reached the Section. We are now in the process of screening the contributions and
drafting the first outline of the programme. A big thank you for all the ideas and inspirations! We will be happy to accept further proposals for contributions up to the beginning of August.
During the upcoming conference we intend to focus on the Agricultural Course as an impulse that inspired biodynamic agriculture for almost a century in different countries around the world. Furthermore, we wish to examine the Agricultural Course in the context of the evolution of agriculture throughout the past millennia. A key question evolves around our
relationship to the earth in different periods of history and how this relationship determines our existence and evolution as humans. This historical perspective on the developing consciousness of agriculture can ultimately show us the point we have now reached and what evolutionary tasks the biodynamic movement faces today and in the near future.

| The new study by Malagoli, M., Sut, S., Kumar, G. et al. on the influence of the horn silica preparation 501 on the plants and fruits of grapevines shows an increase in the content of phenolic metabolites in the leaves and fruit of plants of Vitis vinifera cv Garganega. This results in the plants being better able to adapt to the existing environmental conditions,
entirely without the use of agrochemicals.

| In addition, in a new study, Cyrille Rigolot and Martin Quantin examined the potential and challenges of biodynamic agriculture. Could biodynamics be a key to a sustainable transformation of our food system?

| Review of
the online course "Nutrition and Biodynamic Food Quality"
"It was a wonderfully organised course combining all aspects of nutrition, the body, the spirit, the soil, agriculture and the quality analysis of plants with interesting discussions during the practice units," wrote one Indian nutritional therapist and biographical counsellor in her feedback on the Nutrition and Biodynamic Food Quality online course run by Jasmin Peschke and other nutritional experts.
"Aroma painting" was one of the exercises from the course that most participants would like to continue to practise. In the course, common
characteristics of sugar versus honey were clearly visible, regardless of whether someone had drawn them in India, South Africa or Brazil (see images below).

| The topical subject of the online course appealed to and connected a large number of people. The 26 course participants, predominantly from outside Europe, formed a wonderful group. The concept and some of the material will now to be transferred to other countries. In practical terms, this is planned for Malaysia where the Kongsi Academy will run a course in Mandarin in the autumn. A
further collaboration in Brazil is currently being examined.

| Liebe Freundinnen und Freunde
In Südamerika waren kürzlich an der Passage Cristo Redentor zwischen Chile und Argentinien auf 3'000 m ü. M. 400 Menschen im Schneesturm gestrandet, in Europa hingegen herrscht Hitze und Dürre, Wälder brennen. Es regnet nicht. Beide Kontinente kennen solche Wetterextreme bisher nicht. Gegen den Klimawandel wird zu wenig und nur halbherzig etwas getan, wie betroffene Staaten kürzlich während des Petersberger Klimadialogs in Berlin bestätigten. Es fehlt an Balance, denn die Menschen, die am stärksten unter den Auswirkungen des Klimawandels leiden, sind nicht für ihn verantwortlich.
Die Sonne ist Lebensquelle gegenüber der Kälte und Finsternis, aber wenn sie ohne Dämpfung auf die Erde aufprallt wie in der Wüste, ist sie zu stark und versengt das Leben. Sie braucht die Hüllen der Erde wie Klima, Wetter, Jahreszeiten und die Haut der Erde wie Vegetation, fruchtbare Böden, sinnvoll gestaltete Siedlungs- und Landschaftsarchitektur bis hin zu einer Kulturgestaltung, in der die «innere Sonne» der Menschen aufleuchten kann mit Kräften, die vom Herzen kommen: Liebe, Interesse und Zuneigung.

Landwirtschaftliche Tagung 2023 – Letzter Call for Contributions
|

Das Jahresthema und der Aufruf zu Beiträgen für die kommende Landwirtschaftliche Tagung 2023 stiessen auf ein reges Interesse. Über 40 Ideen aus zwölf Ländern haben die Sektion erreicht und werden nun
gesichtet und ausgewählt. An dieser Stelle bedanken wir uns recht herzlich für die zahlreichen Einreichungen! Noch bis Anfang August nehmen wir sehr gerne weitere Vorschläge für einen Beitrag zum Tagungsprogramm entgegen.
Mit der kommenden Tagung richten wir den Blick auf den Impuls des Landwirtschaftlichen Kurses und wollen ergründen, wie diese Inspirationsquelle seit einem Jahrhundert in den verschiedenen Ländern der Welt wirkt. Ausserdem wollen wir den Landwirtschaftlichen Kurs betrachten im Kontext der gesamten Evolution der
Landwirtschaft, die viele Jahrtausende zurückreicht: Was bedeutet unser Verhältnis zur Erde in den verschiedenen geschichtlichen Etappen für unser Menschsein und unser Menschwerden? Diese bewusstseinsgeschichtliche Perspektive kann uns offenbaren, an welchem Punkt wir heute stehen und vor welche Entwicklungsaufgaben der biodynamische Impuls heute und in Zukunft gestellt sein mag.

Aktuelle Forschungsergebnisse

| Die neue Studie von Malagoli, M., Sut, S., Kumar, G. et al. über den Einfluss des Hornkiesel-Präparats 501 auf die Pflanzen und Beeren von Weinreben belegt eine Zunahme des Gehalts an phenolischen Metaboliten in Blättern und Beeren der Pflanzen Vitis vinifera cv Garganega. Dies führt dazu, dass sich die Pflanzen besser an die vorhandenen Umweltbedingungen anpassen können, und zwar gänzlich ohne die Verwendung von Agrochemikalien.

Ausserdem untersuchten Cyrille Rigolot und Martin Quantin in ihrer neuen Studie das Potential sowie die Herausforderungen der biodynamischen Landwirtschaft. Könnte diese ein Schlüssel zur nachhaltigen Transformation unseres Ernährungssystems sein?

Rückblick auf den Onlinekurs «Nutrition and biodynamic food quality»«Es war ein wunderschön zusammengestellter Kurs, bei dem alle Aspekte der Ernährung, des Körpers, des Geistes, des Bodens, der Landwirtschaft und der Qualitätsanalyse von Pflanzen mit sinnvollen Gesprächen während der Übungseinheiten zusammengestellt waren», schrieb eine indische Ernährungstherapeutin und Biografieberaterin als Rückmeldung auf den vergangenen Onlinekurs «Nutrition and biodynamic food quality» von Jasmin Peschke und anderen Ernährungsexpert:innen.
Das «Aroma painting» war eine der Übungen aus dem Kurs, die die meisten Teilnehmenden weiter pflegen möchten. So wurden im Kurs gemeinsame Charaktereigenschaften von Zucker gegenüber Honig deutlich sichtbar, unabhängig davon, ob jemand in Indien, Südafrika oder Brasilien gemalt hat (siehe Bilder oben).

Das aktuelle Thema des Onlinekurses hat viele Menschen angesprochen und vernetzt. Mit 26 Teilnehmenden, überwiegend aus dem aussereuropäischen Raum, bildete sich eine schöne Kursgemeinschaft. Das Konzept und einige Inhalte sollen nun in andere Länder übertragen werden. Ganz konkret ist dies bereits für Malaysia, wo die Kongsi Academy im Herbst einen Kurs auf Mandarin anbieten wird. Eine weitere Zusammenarbeit in Südamerika ist in Abklärung.
