Dear Friends of the Pedagogical Section
at the Goetheanum, dear Colleagues,

In this issue, you will find a report on the work of the International Council for Steiner Waldorf Education («Hague Circle»). Inspired by the Hague Circle's discussions on a new version of the «Key Characteristics of Steiner Waldorf Education», Josefin Winther (Norway) and Trevor Mepham (UK) have written two articles about aspects of Waldorf education that they consider particularly important today. We would also like to recommend two articles that appeared some time ago by colleagues who have recently passed away; pieces that have lost none of their relevance. The articles are: «Bringing Will into Thinking in Adolescence» by Betty Staley, and «Steiner education in its development» by Johannes Kiersch (text in German).

At the end of the newsletter, you will find two invitations to a couple of important conferences: the World Upper School Teachers Conference in Kassel, organized in collaboration with the Pedagogical Section and the Waldorf Seminar in Kassel, and a conference marking the one hundredth anniversary of Steiner's death, which will also focus on education.

With warm greetings from the Pedagogical Section

Philipp Reubke

The Significance of Art in Education

Waldorf education aims to create living knowledge in pupils through a variety of experiences with phenomena and material, teaching styles, art forms and practical skills.

An Imminent Future?

Education provides a universal narrative of hope and progress. Education is, arguably, an innate human aspiration, a human right, and a human responsibility. But this high ideal and today's common reform-resistant «factory» model of schooling are far apart.

What to do in a world in which many scenarios for tomorrow are imaginable?
