Evolving agriculture – Looking back and looking forward at 100 years of biodynamics

In preparation for the 2024 centenary conference, the upcoming Agriculture Conference from 1-4 February 2023 will look back at the origins of the biodynamic movement and the cultural development of agriculture.
On the one hand we wish to explore and understand the Agriculture Course and how and why this foundation and source of inspiration has acted in different countries for 100 years.
On the other had we will turn our attention to agriculture, whose history goes back for hundreds and even thousands of years. We will attempt to place the impulse of the Agriculture Course in the overall context of agricultural developments, and in this way reach the key question of what our relationship to the earth in the different periods of history means for our human existence and evolution. This historical perspective on the developing consciousness of agriculture can ultimately show us the point which we have now reached and what evolutionary tasks face the biodynamic movement today and in the near future. Further information on the theme of the year is available at:

If these topics and questions are something that interest you, we would be pleased to hear your suggestion for a contribution to the 2023 Agriculture Conference – whether a lecture, keynote speech, workshop, themed session or an artistic course.
We are happy to receive ideas for lectures and keynote speeches up to 30th June 2022
and for workshops, themed sessions and open spaces up to 31st July 2022.

Romana Echensperger, Master of Wine since 2015 talks about her recently published book "Von der Freiheit, den richtigen Wein zu machen – Biodynamisches Winzerhandwerk im Portrait" supported by interesting experiences Georg Meissner, German viticulture researcher at the University of Kassel, in Geisenheim, knows to share.
Opening lectures of the Agriculture Conference 2022 accessible for free on YouTube

Three very different activists, all united by the will to further establish biodynamic quality, kicked off the Agricultural Conference 2022. While Arizona Muse, as a model, focuses in particular on the quality issue in the fashion industry, Carlo Petrini, the founder of the Slow Food movement, wants high-quality and fairly produced food. Nutritionist Maike Ehrlichmann, who successfully uses "intuitive nutrition" in her counselling, also advocates this. This teaches us to listen to the body's signals and thus gives us certainty about what and how much we should eat. The contributions of these three speakers are now freely accessible on YouTube.
Laila Grillo, our staff member for research communication, publishes the key findings from current studies on biodynamic topics on our website twice a month. This month's studies look at the economics of olive production and the chemical analysis of the preparation 500.

Biodynamic trainer and teacher conference 2022 – "Learning biodynamics as a path of transformation"

As already communicated, this year the Section for Agriculture and BFDI will organize four regional workshops/meetings in each of the 4 continents (Asia, Africa, Europe, and America) instead of one centralized conference. The decentralized workshops will be held all on different dates, adapted to regional needs and the format will be face-to-to face workshops, with an online meeting at the end of each regional meeting to share results/experiences with the whole international community.

African biodynamic trainers workshop: 18–23 October 2022 at Kufunda Village in Zimbabwe

European biodynamic trainers workshop: 18–19 November 2022 at the Goetheanum in Dornach, Switzerland

Latin American biodynamic trains workshop: 7–10 December 2022 in Peru (The workshop will be held in conjunction with the XXXVIII Latin American Encuentro of Biodynamic Agriculture. The workshop will begin on 7 December, the day before the Encuentro, and will continue through workshops and talks within the Encuentro from 8–10 December.)
