Dear Friends,

Agriculture has the power to bring together people of every age and from all levels of society and every country, exactly as intended by Nelson Mandela's "ubuntu" anti-apartheid philosophy. At the recent Agriculture Conference marking the centenary of the Agriculture Course, around 1,000 participants from 51 countries gathered at the Goetheanum.

The "seed" to help society rediscover agriculture for the future was shared through lectures, panel discussions, workshops, Open Spaces and many conversations. It spread through the hearts of all the participants at the Goetheanum, which was positively humming with life, human warmth, discussions, movement, surprises, laughter, song, music, eurythmy, dancing and exhibitions.

Thank you to all the visitors (on site and online), the contributors, sponsors and supporters for this great celebration. May the strength of our enthusiasm and dedication help everyone to withstand the tests and difficulties without losing our spiritual sovereignty as farmers.

In his opening address, Tho Ha Vinh outlined three facets of the fundamental role of agriculture in the future: First, the earth needs to be transformed in order to elevate and heal it. Second, it has the task of strengthening communities. Third, it enables us to recognise the spirit that is in every living creature, whether plant, animal or human being, and to respect its dignity and integrity. These three aspects were considered in more depth in various lectures and workshops throughout the centenary conference. Find out more in the following review (with photos).

The earth as a living being

New theme of the year for 2024/25

No sooner is the centenary conference over than preparations for the next Agriculture Conference from 5 to 8 February 2025 are underway. After 100 years of biodynamics we held a review in 2023, worked in detail on the Agriculture Course in 2024, and in 2025 we will have the third part of the trilogy: the future outlook.

Under the main theme of "The earth as a living being" we want to examine what it is that we as farmers can contribute towards the positive development of the earth, because the sick earth needs us more than ever. However, we are not the only ones who want to break through the current prevailing mechanistic view of the earth and to acknowledge and appreciate it as a living being. In preparation for the next conference we will therefore be working with participants from research, climate policy, landscape development, the promotion of biodiversity and the arts in order to look for potential solutions for a healthy future for our earth.

A review

Members of the International Biodynamic Research Platform (IBRP), that was established a year ago, met on 6 February 2024 as part of the pre-conferences of the anniversary conference. There was much lively discussion between the researchers from countries such as Egypt, Brazil, Denmark, Germany, France, Great Britain, Mexico, Portugal, Slovenia and Switzerland. These discussions were based on presentations of innovative studies such as that by Benjamin Eppler and Angela Hoffman on the "Potentised Preparations" and by Jürgen Fritz on "Biodynamic preparations and plant growth-promoting microorganisms".

An international research conference is planned for autumn 2025 in order to promote biodynamic research throughout the world, but further online seminars will follow before that in 2024. From food system to food organism
New handbook by Dr Jasmin Peschke

Our food and our food choices determine what we buy and how we cook. Our purchases in turn influence how food is produced in agriculture. Basically, we consumers are at the center of it all! Based on our diet, we shape the conditions in which we live. You can find inspiration and exercises on how the transformation can succeed in the new handbook "From food system to food organism", which Dr Jasmin Peschke presented during the anniversary conference.

Centenary celebration on Whit Sunday, 19 May 2024

The international centenary conference will now be followed by a regional celebration. With the title "Earth – Plant – Animal – Human. Celebrating 100 years of biodynamic agriculture together", the Garden Department and the Section for Agriculture at the Goetheanum invite you to their open doors day. Insights into biodynamic agriculture will be provided in the form of a range of workshops, market stalls with regional biodynamic products, tours of the Goetheanum grounds and artistic presentations. Intended for all who want to learn about biodynamic agriculture and experience it at first hand, but also for experienced biodynamic practitioners! Free entry.

Die Landwirtschaft hat die Kraft, Menschen aller Gesellschaftsschichten, jeden Alters und aus allen Ländern zusammenzubringen, ganz im Sinne von Nelson Mandelas Anti-Trennungsprinzip «Ubuntu». So versammelten sich an der vergangenen Landwirtschaftlichen Tagung zum hundertjährigen Jubiläum des Landwirtschaftlichen Kurses rund 1000 Teilnehmer:innen aus 51 Ländern am Goetheanum.

Die «Saat», die der Gesellschaft helfen soll, die Bedeutung der Landwirtschaft für die Zukunft wiederzuentdecken, wurde in Vorträgen, Podiumsdiskussionen, Workshops, Open Spaces und in vielen Gesprächen weitergegeben. Sie verbreitete sich in den Herzen aller Teilnehmenden am Goetheanum, das vor Leben, menschlicher Wärme, Austausch, Bewegungen, Überraschungen, Lachen, Liedern, Musik, Eurythmie, Tänzen und Ausstellungen vibrierte.

Wir danken allen Besucher:innen (vor Ort und online), den Mitwirkenden, den Sponsoren und Unterstützern für dieses grosse Fest. Möge die Kraft unseres Enthusiasmus und unseres Engagements allen helfen, die Prüfungen und Schwierigkeiten zu überstehen, ohne unsere geistige Souveränität als Landwirt:innen zu verlieren!

In seinem Eröffnungsvortrag skizzierte Tho Ha Vinh drei Facetten der grundlegenden Rolle der Landwirtschaft in der Zukunft: Erstens gilt es die Erde zu verwandeln, um sie zu heilen. Zweitens hat sie die Aufgabe, die Gemeinschaften zu stärken. Drittens können wir durch sie den Geist, der in jedem Lebewesen, ob Pflanze, Tier oder Mensch, vorhanden ist, erkennen und seine Würde und Integrität respektieren. Diese drei Aspekte wurden während der gesamten Jubiläumstagung in verschiedenen Vorträgen und Workshops vertieft. Mehr dazu erfährst du im folgenden Rückblick (mit Bildern).

Neues Jahresthema 2024/25

Kaum ist die Jubiläumstagung vorbei, beginnen die Vorbereitungen für die nächste Landwirtschaftliche Tagung vom 5. bis 8. Februar 2025. Nach 100 Jahren Biodynamik hielten wir im Jahr 2023 Rückblick, im Jahr 2024 vertieften wir die Inhalte des Landwirtschaftlichen Kurses und für 2025 steht der dritte Teil der Trilogie an: der Ausblick in die Zukunft.

Unter dem Leitthema «Die Erde als Lebewesen» wollen wir untersuchen, was wir als Landwirt:innen zur positiven Entwicklung der Erde beitragen können, denn die kranke Erde braucht uns mehr denn je. Wir sind jedoch nicht die Einzigen, die das derzeit vorherrschende mechanistische Verständnis der Erde durchbrechen und die Erde als Lebewesen anerkennen und wertschätzen wollen. Deshalb werden wir im Hinblick auf die Zukunftstagung mit Akteur:innen aus den Bereichen Forschung, Klimapolitik, Landschaftsgestaltung, Biodiversitätsförderung und Kunst zusammenarbeiten, um gemeinsam nach Lösungsansätzen für eine gesunde Zukunft unserer Erde zu suchen.

Ein Rückblick

Die Mitglieder der «International Biodynamic Research Platform» (IBRP), die vor einem Jahr gegründet wurde, trafen sich am 6. Februar 2024 im Rahmen der Vorkonferenzen der Jubiläumstagung. Zwischen den Forschenden aus Ländern wie Ägypten, Brasilien, Dänemark, Deutschland, Frankreich, Grossbritannien, Mexiko, Portugal, Slowenien und der Schweiz entstand ein reger Austausch. Die Grundlagen dafür bildeten die Präsentationen von innovativen Arbeiten wie beispielsweise diejenige von Benjamin Eppler und Angela Hoffman über «Potenzierte Präparate» oder von Jürgen Fritz über «Biodynamische Präparate und die pflanzenwachstumsfördernden Mikroorganismen».

Um die biodynamische Forschung auf der ganzen Welt weiter zu fördern, ist eine internationale Forschungskonferenz im Herbst 2025 geplant, aber bereits im Jahr 2024 werden weitere Online-Seminare folgen. Vom Ernährungssystem zum Ernährungsorganismus
Neues Handbuch von Dr. Jasmin Peschke

Unser Essen und unsere Lebensmittelauswahl bestimmen, was wir einkaufen und wie wir kochen. Unser Einkauf wiederum beeinflusst, wie die Lebensmittel in der Landwirtschaft erzeugt werden. Im Grunde genommen stehen wir Konsument:innen im Mittelpunkt! Ausgehend von unserer Ernährung gestalten wir die Verhältnisse, in denen wir leben. Impulse und Übungen, wie die Transformation gelingen kann, findest du im neuen Handbuch «Vom Ernährungssystem zum Ernährungsorganismus», das Dr. Jasmin Peschke während der Jubiläumstagung vorstellte.

Tag der offenen Tür Goetheanum Gartenpark und Gärtnerei
Jubiläumsfest am Pfingstsonntag, 19. Mai 2024

Nach der internationalen Jubiläumstagung folgt nun ein regionales Fest. Unter dem Titel «Erde – Pflanze – Tier – Mensch. 100 Jahre biodynamische Landwirtschaft gemeinsam feiern» laden die Gärtnerei und die Sektion für Landwirtschaft am Goetheanum zu einem Tag der offenen Tür ein. Verschiedene Workshops, Marktstände mit regionalen biodynamischen Produkten, Führungen durchs Goetheanum-Gelände und künstlerische Darbietungen geben Einblicke in die biodynamische Landwirtschaft. Für alle, die die biodynamische Landwirtschaft kennenlernen und hautnah erleben möchten, aber auch für erfahrene Biodynamiker:innen! Eintritt frei.
